Fieldwork Projects with Students

GSB students complete projects with outside organizations and entrepreneurs to fulfill course requirements, as independent studies, or for personal interest and experience.  This database allows organizations looking for help to submit proposals and for students and faculty to search for projects that will provide challenging learning experiences.

Projects
This year, the GSB received over 100 requests for help with a range of issues, including business plans, marketing plans, and e-commerce strategies. Most requests come from companies that are local and in the high-tech industry, but submissions have been received from companies as far away as New York, and for a variety of non-high-tech products.  Sponsors include non-profit organizations, large corporations, venture-backed start-ups, and individual entrepreneurs.

Process
Project proposals are submitted on-line.  If accepted by the GSB, the proposal will be made available to students throughout the Business School and, possibly, the School of Engineering. Interested students will contact the sponsor directly.  If the project is for academic credit, it must be approved by the student's professor or faculty advisor.  Students completing projects for credit cannot be compensated.

It is the responsibility of the sponsoring organization to contact the GSB when a project is no longer available.  Projects will remain in our database for the current academic year.  In order to continue this program we need to know if successful matches are being made.  Please send us an email with any feedback.

Independent consultants interested in taking on these types of projects should describe their skills on the consultant form.  We will forward their bios to interested organizations that are willing to pay for such assistance.

Requirements
The sponsoring individual should act as a mentor to the student throughout the project and make available all necessary information. If the project is used for course work, the organization should be willing to share project background, methodology and findings with faculty and students at the GSB.

The organization will be expected to reimburse students for incidental expenses and may need to pay a salary/wage for projects conducted during July, August and September.

Disclaimer
The GSB is not responsible for assigning this work. Project selections are made by students to complete course requirements or to pursue personal areas of interest. The GSB does not guarantee the quality of the work.
