Westlands Water District - Keith Krehbiel

Abstract Text: Westlands Water District of Fresno, California, is the largest agricultural water delivery agency in the United States. The delivery of surface water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Westlands farmers has had the agricultural consequences of significant increases in acreage, yields, and crop diversity. However, there have been media accounts of environmental consequences as well. The case discusses some of the legal and political strategies used by Westlands aimed at defeating, but settling for diluting, major environmental laws.
